Step by Step

How to Measure Yourself

For the most accurate fit, take measurements in fitted undergarments or over a thin layer. Keep the tape snug but not tight — you should be able to breathe comfortably.

Measurement Points
1 BUST 2 UNDERBUST 3 WAIST HIPS 4 TORSO LENGTH 5
Key
Primary measurement (Bust · Waist)
Secondary measurement (Underbust · Hips · Torso)
1
Bust / Full Chest
Wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your chest, across the nipple line. Keep the tape parallel to the floor and do not compress the chest.
✦ Wear your usual bra or the bra you plan to wear with the corset
2
Underbust
Measure directly under your breasts, around the ribcage. This is your bra band area and a critical measurement for corset construction.
✦ Exhale normally and measure — do not breathe in
3
Natural Waist
Find your natural waist by bending slightly to the side — the crease that forms is your natural waist. Measure around this point, keeping the tape level.
✦ This is usually the narrowest part of your torso
4
Hips
Measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks, typically 7–9 inches below your natural waist. Keep feet together and tape parallel to the floor.
✦ For underbust corsets, also note where your hip curve starts
5
Torso Length
Measure from the top of your shoulder (or base of your neck) straight down to your natural waist. This determines the corset height and panel placement.
✦ For overbust styles, also measure shoulder to underbust

Pro Measuring Tips
📏
01
Use a Fabric Tape
A flexible sewing tape gives the most accurate body measurements. A rigid ruler or metal tape will not conform to your curves and will give incorrect results. Fabric tapes are available at any craft or sewing store.

02
Ask for Help
Having someone else measure you gives far more accurate results than measuring yourself alone — especially for back width and torso length. Ask a friend or family member to assist for the best outcome.

Size Reference Chart

Our ready sizes are a starting point — every piece can be custom adjusted at no extra cost. If you fall between sizes or have a unique shape, simply choose Custom and send your exact measurements.

Units:
Corset sizing is based on the waist measurement. Our steel-boned corsets are designed to reduce the waist by 2–4 inches. For fashion wear choose 2–4 sizes below your natural waist. For waist training, choose your true waist measurement.

Understanding Corset Numbers

What Does
"Size 24" Mean?

Corsets are sized differently from regular clothing. The number (e.g. 24) refers to the finished waist measurement in inches when the corset is fully closed — not the wearer's current waist size. This is traditional corset notation used worldwide by all corset makers.

So a "Size 24" corset, when fully laced closed, measures exactly 24 inches around the waist. Most wearers choose a corset 2–4 inches smaller than their natural waist.

Fashion Wear Choose a corset 2–4 inches smaller than your natural waist for a comfortable cinched silhouette without strain
Waist Training Start 4 inches below your natural waist and work gradually smaller over weeks — never jump more than 2 sizes at once
Theatrical / Stage Use Choose your exact waist size for all-day or performance comfort — you'll be wearing it for hours

Common Questions

Fit & Sizing FAQ

Everything you need to know about sizing, fit, and ordering your Dream Corset. Can't find your answer here? Contact us directly — we reply within 24 hours.

I've never worn a corset before. How tight should it feel?
First Time Wear
A well-fitted corset should feel firm and supportive — like a very secure, close hug around your torso. You should be able to breathe normally at all times, though very deep breaths will feel restricted. It should never dig painfully into your ribs, restrict your range of motion severely, or make you feel light-headed or short of breath. If it does any of these things, it is too small or laced too tightly. New corsets also need a "seasoning" period of 10–15 short wears before reaching their final fit.
What if my measurements fall between two sizes?
Sizing
If you are between sizes, we recommend one of two approaches. For ready-to-order pieces, choose the larger size — the back lacing gives approximately 5 cm of adjustment room, so a slightly larger corset can still be tightened to your preferred fit. For a guaranteed perfect result, simply choose Custom and send your exact in-between measurements. We craft to any measurement at no extra charge — there is no reason to compromise on fit.
Do you make corsets for plus sizes and larger bodies?
Plus Size
Absolutely — and we are proud of it. We make corsets for every body type and every size with no upper size limit on custom orders. Our artisans have crafted corsets from a 14-inch waist to well beyond a 60-inch waist with equal care and precision. All bodies deserve a beautifully fitted corset, and ours are made with extra boning channels and reinforced seams for larger sizes at no additional cost. Simply choose Custom and send your measurements.
My bust and waist are very different sizes. Which do I base my size on?
Proportions
This depends on the style. For underbust corsets (which sit below the chest), sizing is based on the waist measurement only — your bust is not enclosed so it does not matter. For overbust corsets (which cover the chest), both bust and waist are critical. If your measurements span two different sizes, we strongly recommend custom ordering so our artisans can draft a pattern specifically for your proportions. This is the most common reason customers go custom, and it always produces a superior result.
Will the corset stretch or change shape over time?
Care & Longevity
Our steel-boned corsets go through a natural "seasoning" process during the first 10–15 wears, where the fabric and boning gradually mould to your body's specific shape. During this time the corset becomes noticeably more comfortable and form-fitting. We recommend wearing it for 1–2 hours at a time initially, tightening the lacing gradually each session. After seasoning the corset holds its shape very well. With proper care — hand washing, air drying flat — a Dream Corset will last many years.
What is your alteration and fit guarantee policy?
Alterations
Every Dream Corset comes with a free minor alteration guarantee. If your piece arrives and the fit is not perfect, contact us within 14 days of delivery and we will make the necessary adjustments and return it to you completely free of charge — including return shipping. Minor alterations include letting out or taking in seams, adjusting the busk position, and modifying lacing length. Major re-makes due to significantly incorrect measurements provided may incur a partial remake fee, but we always discuss this with you first and work to find the fairest solution.
